Team
Because of our own experience--as patent attorneys, inventors, and engineers--we know
the barriers that entrepreneurs and innovators face in turning big ideas into
successful products. And how to overcome them.
Peter Tong is a cofounder of IpVenture. Before IpVenture, he cofounded and
served as CEO of ProfessorQ (later renamed Mindfabric), a CRM software company based
on patents he co-invented, using natural-language search technologies; the company
was in business from 1999 to 2004. He also cofounded IpLearn, a
technology development and licensing company for the e-Learning industry. He holds
dozens of patents based on technologies he co-invented and has licensed them to a
number of companies. Tong has a JD/MBA from Santa Clara University and a Ph.D in
electrical engineering from Caltech. He has practiced intellectual property law at
Bay Area law firms and at Hewlett-Packard, where he also developed a number of
instruments.
Doug Thomas is an inventor, entrepreneur, lawyer and a cofounder of IpVenture.
As an intellectual property attorney, he has represented Fortune 500 companies,
individuals and emerging companies in developing and protecting their intellectual
property assets. As an inventor and entrepreneur, he has obtained and licensed various
patents on his own innovations. Thomas has a BSEE from Pennsylvania State
University, a JD from Dickinson School of Law, and an LLM with specialization in
Intellectual Property Law from George Washington University School of Law. He has also
served as an adjunct professor at University of Santa Clara School of Law. Thomas
was selected to be a member of Who's Who of American Inventors in 1998-99.
